Paul Stanley (real name Stanley Eisen) was born on January 20, 1950, in the Queens district of New York. He is an American musician, guitarist, and vocalist, best known as the lead vocalist and frontman of the glam rock band Kiss.
Early Career
In the late 1960s, Stanley formed the band Uncle Joe. In 1970, Gene Simmons, the only constant creative collaborator of Paul Stanley, joined the band as the bassist and vocalist. In 1971, they formed the band Rainbow, which was later renamed Wicked Lester in 1972.
Formation of Kiss
The band Kiss was formed in late 1972, and by the following year, they started performing rare concerts in clubs. The official birthdate of the band is considered to be August 24, 1973, when the musicians signed a contract with Casablanca Records. Within five years, their compositions reached the top of the charts.
Success and Iconic Image
Kiss conquered America with their monstrous makeup and extravagant stage shows, which involved unprecedented use of pyrotechnics at the time. In 1983, the band attempted to abandon their iconic makeup, but in 1989, they decided to return to their proven image.
Later Career
In 1993, the members of Kiss left their handprints in the Hollywood Rock Walk of Fame. In 1995, the band experienced a resurgence, reuniting in their original lineup after a fifteen-year hiatus. In 2000, Kiss embarked on a farewell tour, which extended until 2003 when the musicians officially announced that they were not retiring.
Legacy
Over the course of 35 years, Kiss released over forty albums with a total circulation of 75 million copies. Paul Stanley is the author or co-author of the majority of Kiss' hits.
