Tate Reeves: A Comprehensive Biography

Early Life and Education

Born in 1974, Tate Reeves graduated from high school in 1992. He then pursued Economics at Millsaps College, where he played as a point guard on the basketball team.

Business Career

After graduating, Reeves established himself in the banking and finance industry in Jackson, Mississippi. He held investment positions at Trustmark National Bank from 2000 onward.

Political Ascent

Treasurer of Mississippi (2003-2012)

In 2003, Reeves defeated Democrat Gary Anderson in a direct election for Mississippi Treasurer, garnering 52% of the votes.

Lieutenant Governor (2012-2020)

Reeves emerged victorious in the 2011 lieutenant gubernatorial election and became the running mate of Governor Phil Bryant on January 10, 2012. He was re-elected in 2015.

Governorship (2020-Present)

2019 Gubernatorial Election

On November 5, 2019, Reeves won the Mississippi gubernatorial election with 52% of the vote, narrowly defeating Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood, who received 46%.

Flag Change (2020)

On June 30, 2020, Reeves signed a bill to change the Mississippi state flag, which had been a target of protests due to its design featuring the Confederate battle emblem. This change was largely driven by the anti-racism protests that emerged in 2020.
