Taylor Kitsch: A Canadian Success Story

Childhood and Early Life

Taylor Kitsch was born on April 8, 1981, in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. He spent his childhood in Vancouver, where he still resides when not filming the television series 'Friday Night Lights' in Austin, Texas. Kitsch harbored aspirations of becoming an actor from a young age, which prompted his move to New York City.

Modeling and Acting Debut

Once in New York City, Kitsch pursued his acting dreams by studying under teacher Sheila Gray. His efforts paid off when he landed his first film role in 'Pacific 121'. He subsequently appeared in several supporting roles, including Betty Thomas' comedy 'John Tucker Must Die', the thriller 'Flight of the Phoenix', and the television series 'Kyle XY'.

In 2002, Kitsch signed with IMG Models after being spotted by a Canadian talent scout. He became the face of prominent clothing brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch and Diesel. While living in New York, Kitsch also obtained certifications as a personal trainer and nutritionist.

The Role that Launched His Career

In 2006, Kitsch signed with Endeavour, one of North America's largest talent agencies. His breakout role came in Renny Harlin's teen horror 'Deal', which also starred Stephen Strait, Chase Crawford, and Toby Hemingway. Despite the film's mediocre reception, Kitsch's performance, which included performing his own stunts, earned him recognition.

'Friday Night Lights' and Beyond

Following 'Deal', Kitsch's talent caught the attention of casting directors for the football drama 'Friday Night Lights'. He was eventually cast as Tim Riggins, a star player on the Dillon Panthers football team. Kitsch's performance in the series impressed both fans and critics alike.

In 2008, Kitsch landed his long-awaited breakthrough role. He was cast as Gambit in the 'X-Men' spin-off film 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', alongside Hugh Jackman.

Personal Life and Interests

Despite his newfound fame, Kitsch remains a humble individual, stating that he would rather avoid the spotlight altogether. In his spare time, he enjoys participating in charitable work and listening to music, particularly country. His favorite films include 'State of Grace', 'Disturbia', and 'Dead Man Walking', and his favorite actor is Sean Penn. At the age of 25, Kitsch became the youngest model to grace the cover of 'Men's Health' magazine.

Current and Upcoming Projects

Currently, Kitsch is filming Andrew Stanton's science fiction adventure film 'John Carter of Mars' and is set to star in the big-budget blockbuster 'Battleship'.
