Birth and Early Life
Taz Skylar was born on December 5, 1995, in the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago off the coast of Africa. He holds dual citizenship, Spanish and British, and spends most of his time in London while frequently visiting his birthplace of Tenerife.
Skylar grew up in a diverse family with parents from different religious backgrounds. His father's ancestors hailed from Lebanon and Sierra Leone, while his English mother met his father while vacationing in the islands. Skylar took his mother's surname.
Teenage Years and Surfing
Skylar's childhood in the Canary Islands was filled with the perks of living in a resort area, and he spent countless hours swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. At age 12, he developed a passion for surfing and participated in local competitions. After graduating high school, he designed and built surfboards, which were used by professional surfers.
Aspirations in the British Army
In 2016, Skylar moved to the UK and attempted to join the British Army, inspired by a childhood friend's experiences in war zones. However, a car accident and subsequent concussion resulted in a failed medical examination. Despite an offer to re-examine after a year, Skylar opted not to pursue a military career.
Writing and Theater
Instead, Skylar discovered his talent for writing. A friend's account of post-traumatic stress disorder in young soldiers inspired his play "Combat Parts," which he produced at The Park Theatre, playing the lead role himself.
Debut in Film and Television
Skylar made his film debut in 2015 with a minor role in the short film "Vengeance." His filmography primarily consists of supporting roles in series such as "Agatha Raisin" and "Project Lazarus." His theater career, however, flourished, with appearances in various London theaters and continued writing of scripts.
In 2018, Skylar made his directorial debut with the short film "Shapeshifter," which received positive feedback.
"One Piece" and the Future
In 2021, Skylar successfully auditioned for the role of Sanji, a chef, in the live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series "One Piece." He starred alongside Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, and Jacob Romero Gibson. Skylar actively shared videos of his physical training and culinary experiments on Instagram.
Personal Life
Skylar is described as a humble and private individual who rarely shares details of his personal life on social media. He is unmarried and has no children.
An adrenaline junkie, Skylar enjoys extreme sports such as jiu-jitsu, skydiving, and rock climbing.
Currently, Skylar continues to act, with the premiere of "One Piece" taking place on August 31, 2023, featuring a 10-episode first season.
