Biography of Ted Ligety
Ted Ligety is an American alpine skier and member of the national ski team. He was born on August 31, 1984, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ligety grew up near the Park City ski resort and started skiing at the age of two. He participated in his first race at the age of eleven.
Ligety attended the Winter Sports School in Park City and graduated in 2002. He then joined the U.S. Ski Team's development program and won a silver medal in slalom at the Junior World Championships in 2004. In the same year, Ligety made his debut in the World Cup and showcased his skills in both slalom and giant slalom events, earning him a spot on the U.S. ski team for the 2005 season.
In his first season as a full member of the U.S. ski team, Ligety achieved remarkable results. He made four top 15 finishes in slalom and finished 24th overall in the World Cup standings. Ligety's breakthrough came in the 2006 Winter Olympics, where he won the gold medal in the men's combined event. This victory made him the first American skier to win a medal in alpine skiing in 12 years.
Ligety also competed in slalom and giant slalom events at the 2006 Olympics but did not finish. After his Olympic triumph, Ligety continued to excel in the World Cup circuit. He won his first World Cup race in giant slalom in 2006 and finished ninth overall in the 2006-2007 season.
