Biography of Temirbay Darkanbaev

Temirbay Darkanbaev was a prominent biochemist, doctor of biological sciences, and professor. He was born in 1912 in the Kazakh Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Darkanbaev became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1941 and dedicated his career to scientific research and education.

Education and Early Career

Darkanbaev graduated from Moscow State University in 1936. After completing his studies, he worked as a lecturer at the S. M. Kirov Kazakh State University from 1936 to 1937. He then pursued his research interests and enrolled as a graduate student at the Institute of Biology of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1938 to 1941. During this time, he also served as a senior research associate at the Laboratory of Biochemistry in the Kazakh branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1941 to 1943.

Academic Career and Achievements

In 1943, Darkanbaev was appointed as the Vice-Rector of the Kazakh State University, a position he held until 1946. From 1946 to 1970, he served as the head of the Department of Biochemistry and from 1955 to 1961, he held the position of Rector at the S. M. Kirov Kazakh State University. His leadership and contributions to the university played a significant role in its development and success.

Darkanbaev's remarkable scientific research focused on the biochemistry of cereal crops, studying proteins, carbohydrates, enzymes, vitamins, and the mineral composition of wheat grains. He authored more than 230 scientific works, including two monographs and two textbooks. His research had a profound impact on the understanding of biochemistry in agricultural crops.

Later Career and Recognition

From 1972 to 1983, Darkanbaev served as a member of the Presidium and the Academic Secretary of the Department of Biological Sciences at the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. In 1983, he became the head of the laboratory at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. His expertise and contributions to the field were widely recognized, earning him numerous accolades and awards, including the Order of Lenin and other prestigious medals.

Political Career and Honors

In addition to his scientific achievements, Darkanbaev was also involved in politics. He was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR for the 4th and 5th convocations. His dedication to both scientific research and public service made him a respected figure in Kazakhstan.

Temirbay Darkanbaev's contributions to the field of biochemistry and his significant role in the development of education and science in Kazakhstan will always be remembered. He passed away in 1997, leaving behind a lasting legacy of scientific excellence and dedication to his country.
