Terry Blair: A Biography of an American Serial Killer
Terry Blair, an American serial killer, was responsible for the rape and murder of at least seven women from Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on September 16, 1961, into a family that had a history of criminal encounters with the justice system.
Family Background
Blair's mother, Janice Blair, who suffered from a mental illness, had just completed the 9th grade before giving birth to Terry and nine other siblings. One of Terry's criminal brothers, Walter Blair Jr., met someone while serving time in prison who offered him $6,000 to kill Katherine Jo Allen. Allen was a witness in a rape case against this individual. Walter admitted to kidnapping Allen from her apartment, taking her to an empty lot, and killing her. He was convicted and executed in 1993.
Another stepbrother, Clifford Miller, was convicted in 1992 for the kidnapping of a woman from a bar. He shot her in the arm and took her to an abandoned house where he repeatedly raped and brutalized her, causing her to sustain gunshot wounds, a fractured skull, a broken jaw, and fractured cheekbones. She spent two months in the hospital before recovering. Clifford Miller was sentenced to two life terms in prison, along with an additional 240 years for the kidnapping and violent sodomy.
Mother's Crime
Terry's mentally ill mother, Janice Blair, fatally wounded Elton E. Gray. Although she was found guilty, she received a suspended sentence. Meanwhile, Terry Blair had already spent 21 years behind bars for the murder of Angela Monroe, the mother of his two children, before his criminal biography expanded to include six more murder charges. According to reports, Terry killed Angela upon discovering her involvement in prostitution. Interestingly, Blair was released from prison for only two weeks before committing his second murder. He was sent back behind bars when information about his new crimes emerged during his parole.
New Victims
Among his new victims was 42-year-old Anna Ewing, whom he strangled and broke her neck no later than July 14, 2004. On September 2 of the same year, he strangled 58-year-old Patricia Wilson Butler and broke her neck, as well as 38-year-old Sheliah McKinzie. On September 4, 2004, Blair strangled and broke the neck of 25-year-old Darci I. Williams and 31-year-old Claudette Juniel, and also strangled 40-year-old Carmen Hunt. He was also charged with two other murders, Sandra Reed and Nellia Harris, as well as one assault and three rapes.
Criminal Charges and Sentencing
On October 5, 2004, Terry Blair was charged with eight counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault, and three counts of rape. He avoided the death penalty by waiving his right to a jury trial. Over 20 years ago, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of his first known victim, Angela Monroe. Then, after 21 years and an early release, he was found guilty of the murders of six more women. For these six murders, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Currently, Blair is serving his sentence at the Potosi Correctional Center in Mineral Point, Missouri.
