Early Life and Career
Theodosia Goodman was born on July 29, 1885, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her parents were Jewish and German immigrants, and her father worked as a tailor while her mother made wigs and hairpieces. After graduating from high school, Theodosia attended the University of Cincinnati. However, she dropped out to pursue a career in theater.
In 1908, Theodosia moved to New York City, where she adopted the stage name "Theda Bara." For ten years, she played minor roles and received little attention. In 1914, her career took a turn when she starred in Frank Powell's film "The Stain."
The Vamp
In 1915, Theda Bara's career skyrocketed with her role as a vampire in "A Fool There Was." This image became her trademark and brought her immense fame. She went on to star in several films that cemented her status as a sex symbol, including "Salome," "Cleopatra," and "The Bloody Rose."
Leading Lady
Theda Bara became a leading lady for Fox Film Corporation. At the height of her career, she earned up to $4,000 per week. She starred in 38 films in total, including "The Kreutzer Sonata" and "Sin."
Retirement and Later Life
In 1921, Theda Bara married director Charles Brabin. He convinced her to retire from acting and provided her with a lavish lifestyle. They were known for hosting extravagant parties and salons in their Hollywood homes.

Theda Bara passed away from stomach cancer in 1955. She left a legacy as one of the greatest actresses of the silent film era. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and her films have become classics.
