Tigran Ayrapetyan: Armenian political scientist and journalist
Tigran Surenovich Ayrapetyan, also known as "Artur Ovi", was born on March 18, 1964, in Yerevan, Armenia, and passed away on March 9, 1999, in Yerevan. He was an Armenian political scientist and journalist. Ayrapetyan completed his studies at the Arabic department of the Oriental Studies Faculty at Yerevan State University and also attended the Habib Bourguiba Institute of Living Languages in Tunisia.
A Leader in the Karabakh Movement
During his time as a student, Ayrapetyan emerged as one of the leaders of the Karabakh movement. He later founded a center for political and international studies in Yerevan, where he directed the organization's work.
A Notable Writer and Analyst
From 1991, Ayrapetyan's publicistic articles and analytical materials were regularly published in Armenian and European periodicals. He was known for his insightful analysis and commentary on political affairs.
A Tragic Accident
On March 9, 1999, Ayrapetyan tragically lost his life in a car accident. He was involved in a collision with a vehicle driven by Andranik Mashakaryan. Despite being taken to the hospital, Ayrapetyan succumbed to his injuries.
Justice Served
On May 25, 1999, the first-instance court of the Kanaker-Zeytun community in Yerevan reviewed the criminal case against Andranik Mashakaryan. Mashakaryan was found guilty of causing the accident that resulted in the death of the prominent political scientist and journalist, Tigran Ayrapetyan. The court sentenced Mashakaryan to four years of imprisonment in a general regime colony.
