Biography of Tim Hart
Tim Hart was an English folk musician and multi-instrumentalist, best known as one of the founders of the electro-folk group 'Steeleye Span'. He was born on January 9, 1948, in Lincoln, England. His father, Canon Dennis Hart, was a vicar in St Albans, a town in Hertfordshire, England.
Early Career
Hart's musical career began with performances with the band 'Rattfinks', the second school band from St Albans to gain recognition. The first was 'The Zombies', whose songs have long become classics of rock music. In 1966, he started performing in English folk clubs alongside Maddy Prior from Blackpool. In 1968 and 1969, the duo recorded two albums, 'Folk Songs of Olde England' - volume one and volume two.
Steeleye Span
From 1970 to 1982, Hart and Prior formed the core of 'Steeleye Span'. Hart's contribution to the group's work showcased his musical abilities on a wide range of instruments, including acoustic guitar, cymbals, organ, five-string banjo, mandolin, bells, and a small drum, in addition to his talent as a vocalist.
Solo Career and Later Life
In 1979, Hart took advantage of the decline in 'Steeleye Span's popularity to release a solo album titled 'Tim Hart'. Members of 'Steeleye Span', Maddy Prior, Rick Kemp, and Nigel Pegrum, participated in the recording, providing vocals, bass guitar, drums, and percussion.
Hart continued to record and perform with 'Steeleye Span' until his final concert with the group in 1982. After leaving the band, he released two albums of children's songs in 1981. In 1988, due to serious health concerns, Hart moved to La Gomera, one of the Canary Islands, where he focused on writing and photography. He married for the second time and published a guidebook and photography book titled 'La Gomera: A Guide to the Unspoiled Canary Island' in 2004.
In 1995, Hart briefly reunited with the other members of 'Steeleye Span' for a charity concert in support of the organization 'War Child'. In December 2008, he returned to England with his wife Conny after being diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. Hart passed away on December 24, 2009, at the age of 61, at his home in La Gomera.
