Early Life and Career
Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul began his footballing journey with ADO Den Haag in his hometown. However, the club declined to offer him a professional contract, leading him to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Newcastle United and Loan Spells
In 2005, Krul signed a three-year contract with English club Newcastle United. He made his debut for the club in a pre-season match in 2006 and impressed in his first official appearance against Palermo in the UEFA Cup.
Injury and Recovery
Soon after his debut, Krul suffered a knee injury that required two surgeries, keeping him sidelined for six months. After recovering, he inked a new contract with Newcastle in 2007 and represented the Netherlands at the European Under-21 Championship, securing a place at the 2008 Olympics.
Loans to Falkirk and Carlisle
In 2007, Krul was loaned to Scottish club Falkirk, where he made his debut with a clean sheet against Gretna. However, he later conceded heavily against Celtic and Rangers. He was sent off for the first time in his career against Kilmarnock and missed the rest of the season due to a shoulder dislocation.
In 2008, Krul spent a month on loan at Carlisle United, which was extended for an additional month.
Return to Newcastle
Krul returned to Newcastle as a backup goalkeeper. He made his Premier League debut in 2010 against Everton and kept a clean sheet. He also played in the Football League Cup, helping Newcastle secure a win against Huddersfield Town.
International Career
Krul represented the Netherlands at the FIFA World Youth Championship in 2005. He also played in the Toulon Tournament in 2008 and became the starting goalkeeper for the under-21 team in the European Championship qualifiers.
Current Club
Tim Krul currently plays for English club Norwich City. He made the move in 2022 after a successful spell at Newcastle United from 2005 to 2017.
