In 1985, the family moved to the Philippines, where they engaged in missionary work and participated in church construction. Pamela contracted amoebic dysentery and even fell into a coma, only to discover she was pregnant during her rehabilitation. Despite doctors recommending an abortion due to the medications used for her treatment, Pamela and Robert Tebow relied on their faith, and on August 14, 1987, a healthy boy was born in a Manila medical center, the youngest of their five children.

Tim and his siblings received homeschooling, during which their parents aimed to instill in them the values of true evangelism. Fortunately, in 1996, a law was passed in Florida allowing homeschooled students to participate in school sports competitions in their district. Tim took advantage of this and played for the local high school team in his hometown of Jacksonville, then transferred to Allen D. Nease High School's football program. Tim gained national recognition as a junior in high school due to his outstanding athletic talents. In the same year, he suffered a serious injury, initially mistaken for a muscle spasm, which resulted in a fractured right fibula. Despite missing half the season, Tim was still named Florida's Player of the Year and was considered one of the most promising young American quarterbacks.

Curiously, despite his parents' close ties to the University of Florida, Tim met with representatives from other college teams, including the University of Alabama. However, he ultimately chose the offer from the University of Florida and became a member of the "Florida Gators" team. Before attending college, Tim spent three consecutive summers in the Philippines, engaging in missionary work and assisting at his father's orphanage.
