Tuvaluan Statesman

Toaripi Lauti was a prominent figure in Tuvaluan history. Born into a chiefly family, Lauti played a pivotal role in the establishment of the British colony of Tuvalu and later in the country's independence.

On October 2, 1975, Lauti was appointed Chief Minister of the British colony of Tuvalu. He held this position until the country's independence.
