USABiography of Todd Lockwood
Todd Lockwood is an American fantasy artist and illustrator, best known for his illustrations and collectible cards for the Dungeons & Dragons series of games, as well as book covers for authors such as Robert Salvatore and Elaine Cunningham. He was born on June 9, 1957, in Boulder, Colorado. From a young age, Lockwood was a fan of science fiction, particularly the television series Star Trek, and a player of Dungeons & Dragons. His idols include Frank Frazetta and Michael Whelan. Lockwood graduated with honors from the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver in 1981 and won a silver medal at the annual art editor's festival in the same year. He worked for a while at a magazine dedicated to space satellites.
Career Breakthrough
Lockwood's career took an unexpected turn after his participation in the WorldCon-1995 festival. At this convention, he won several awards and caught the attention of editors of fantasy and gaming magazines. Afterward, Lockwood terminated his contract with his agency in New York and moved to Washington, where he began working for TSR and eventually its successor, Wizards of the Coast.
