Tofajjal: The Boy with Two Heads
Tofajjal, the son of Shah Alam Mia and Sabia Khatun, was born with a rare condition known as "parasitic twin" or encephalocele. This meant that he had two heads from birth.

Separation Surgery
Indian surgeons performed a five-hour operation to remove the "parasite" from Tofajjal's head, a massive hernia weighing almost a kilogram. The surgery was described as one of the most stressful and complex in the lead surgeon's career. Fortunately, the operation was a success, and Tofajjal was free from his birth defect.

Encephalocele: A Rare Condition
Encephalocele, or congenital protrusion of the brain and its membranes, is an extremely rare condition, affecting approximately one in 40,000-45,000 newborns. Treatment is often challenging.
Journey to Calcutta
Tofajjal's parents faced a grim prognosis in their home province, where doctors could not help him. With nothing to lose, they took him to Calcutta, where he underwent the life-saving surgery at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital.
Successful Outcome
Dr. Sisir Das led the five-hour operation that removed the kilogram hernia that had hindered Tofajjal's development. Today, Tofajjal is recovering well and doctors expect him to live a normal life in the near future.
