Thomas Helveg is a renowned Danish professional footballer who has left an indelible mark on the sport. Throughout his career, he has showcased his exceptional skills as a defender, representing prominent clubs and making significant contributions to the Danish national team.

Early Career and International Recognition

Born in Odense, Denmark, Helveg began his football journey with the local club Odense, where he quickly established himself in the first team. His talents became evident, and in 1992, he represented Denmark at the Summer Olympics, playing in three matches.

In April 1994, Helveg made his debut for the Danish national team, replacing the injured John Jensen. His exceptional performance earned him regular call-ups and recognition as the Danish Player of the Year in 1994.

Success at Udinese

In 1993, Helveg joined Udinese, who were fighting for survival in the Italian Serie A. He made his debut in November 1993 and scored two goals in his first season. Despite Udinese's relegation to Serie B, Helveg continued to impress and was recalled to the Danish national team.

During the 1994/1995 season, Udinese bounced back to Serie A, with Helveg playing a crucial role. In 1996, he netted his first goal for Denmark and made his international tournament debut at Euro 1996.

In 1997, Udinese signed Martin Jorgensen, another Danish footballer. The 1996/1997 season proved pivotal for the club, as they finished fifth and qualified for European competition for the first time. Helveg played a significant part in their success, making 30 appearances.

In 2007, Helveg moved to Newcastle United in the English Premier League. He returned to Denmark in 2008 to play for Odense, where he ended his illustrious career in 2010.
