Biography of Tomasz Adam Merta

Tomasz Adam Merta was a Polish historian, statesman, and journalist. He held various positions of importance during his career, including Deputy Minister of Culture and National Heritage from 2005 to 2010, as well as Chief Conservator of Monuments.

Merta completed his secondary education at the Hanka Sawicka High School in Kielce. He then pursued his studies in Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw, and later completed his doctoral studies at the School of Social Sciences at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

In the years 1996 to 1998, Merta worked as an assistant at the Institute of Applied Social Sciences at the University of Warsaw. During this time, he also became a member of the editorial team of the journal "Res Publica Nowa". From 1996 to 2000, he served as the Polish correspondent for the "East European Constitutional Review", and later worked as an editor for the "Kwartalnik Konserwatywny" until 2002.

Tragically, Tomasz Adam Merta lost his life in an aviation accident in Smolensk on April 10, 2010. He was posthumously awarded the Order of the Rebirth of Poland, the highest civilian award in Poland, in 2010.
