Toncho Russev, a renowned Bulgarian musician and composer, was born on April 20, 1932, in Burgas, Bulgaria. Raised in a family of railroad workers, young Toncho's musical talent emerged early on. Inspired by his father's musical abilities and the allure of the nearby sea, his passion for music began to take shape.

Education and Career Beginnings

After completing high school, Toncho worked as a mechanic at the "Cherveno Zname" factory. Concurrently, he pursued trumpet lessons with Dimitar Ganev, a soloist with the Burgas Philharmonic Orchestra. His exceptional skills caught the attention of renowned musicians in Burgas, who encouraged him to study music professionally. In 1955, he graduated from the National Academy of Music in trumpet, where he studied under Professor Karparov.

Orchestral Work and the Birth of "Balkan"

Toncho's musical journey continued with his involvement in various symphony orchestras, including the Burgas Symphony, the Pernik Symphony, and the Sofia Opera. In 1962, he co-founded the "Balkan" orchestra, where he performed for a decade, leaving an indelible mark on the Balkan music scene.

In 1974, Toncho joined forces with Ivan Kutikov to create the "Spectrum" orchestra at the Kremikovtsi Metallurgical Factory, becoming its artistic director. His leadership extended to the music industry as well, where he served as the director of the Bulgarian Estrada from 1980 to 1985.
