Early Life and Career
Toni Eggert was born on May 12, 1988, in Suhl, Thuringia, Germany. He began his sledding career at the age of twelve, and in 2003, he joined the German national team as a partner with Marcel Oster. Eggert quickly achieved success, winning the World Junior Championships in 2007 in Cesana, Italy, and a silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Lake Placid, USA, a year later.
Youth World Cup Success
Eggert also excelled in the Youth World Cup. In the 2005/06 season, he finished third overall. The following season, he placed fourth in the world rankings, and a year later, he won the trophy, claiming victory in all six races.
World and European Medals
In the 2008/09 season, Eggert and Oster transitioned to the adult German national team. In 2010, Eggert partnered with Sascha Benecken, and their success accelerated. Eggert finished fourth overall in the 2010/11 World Cup. At the 2012 World Championships in Altenberg, Germany, he won a silver medal in the men's doubles and a gold in the mixed team event. He also claimed a bronze medal at the European Championships in Paramonovo, Russia. Eggert won another silver in the men's doubles at the 2013 World Championships in Whistler, Canada.
Winter Olympics and Later Career
Eggert competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, finishing eighth in the men's doubles. He currently trains and lives in Oberhof, Germany. After his athletic career, he plans to become an officer in the German Federal Police and is currently undergoing training. In his spare time, Eggert enjoys model aviation.
