Junior Success and Debut on the Senior Circuit

During the 2002/03 season, Edney triumphed in the overall standings of the Junior World Cup for singles. He also competed in doubles, finishing fourth overall. His partnership with Gwyn Lewis yielded impressive results, including a seventh-place finish in their World Cup debut on home soil in Calgary.

Focus on Singles and Olympic Appearances

Edney eventually decided to concentrate on men's singles. This decision paid off, as he earned a spot on the Canadian team for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where he placed 19th. Despite ranking 22nd in the world in 2006/07, a 32nd-place finish at the World Championships in Nagano marked a setback.

Breakthrough and Olympic Hopes

Breakthrough performances in 2008 and 2009 propelled Edney to the ninth and 17th positions at the World Championships in Oberhof and Lake Placid, respectively. He qualified for the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, aiming for a podium finish on his familiar home track. However, he finished seventh.

Mixed Team Success and World Championship Medals

In 2012, Edney won a bronze medal in the mixed team event at the World Championships in Altenberg. A silver medal followed in the same discipline at the 2013 World Championships in Whistler.

Olympic Return and Career Longevity

Edney competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, placing 11th in men's singles and fourth in the mixed relay. Today, he continues to train and reside in his hometown of Calgary. When not lugeing, Edney enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and golfing.
