Tony Berglund - Extreme Athlete
Tony Berglund is a renowned extreme athlete who holds the record for the fastest vertical wall descent (running). His time of 34.76 seconds surpassed the previous record of 35.26 seconds, making him the new absolute champion of wall running. This new extreme sport has aptly been dubbed "office mountaineering". Berglund is currently in negotiations with representatives from the Guinness World Records as the holder of a highly unique record.
The Record-Breaking Descent
Berglund's record was set in the Swedish city of Västerås, where the 100-meter building he descended from was specially extended by 20 meters to comply with the sport's regulations. Equipped with special mountaineering gear, Berglund ran face-down along the sheer wall. To mitigate the intense friction created by the safety system during the descent, Berglund also utilized a specially designed cooling device for the rope, as there was a risk of it melting. This extreme activity, which many consider a sport, originated from techniques used by rock climbers for rapid descents in emergency situations. Moreover, skills in fast vertical descent are part of the training program for special forces.
A Passion for Extreme Sports
Berglund has been passionate about extreme sports for a long time, having previously skydived, engaged in skydiving, scuba diving, and rafting. Following his triumphant descent, the extreme athlete exclaimed, "I feel great, absolutely amazing! So many emotions at once!" The spectators who witnessed this extraordinary and thrilling record cheered enthusiastically for their champion. A video clip of Berglund's descent, shared and circulated on the internet, allows viewers to witness his sprint towards the safety mat at the end of the course.
"When my feet touched the mat, I felt like months and months of hard work were behind me... The time it took no longer mattered. Our entire city put in tremendous efforts to achieve this result," said the elated champion.
