Born on January 27, 1967, in Atlanta, Texas, Tracy Lawrence is an American country music artist. He spent his childhood in Foreman, Arkansas, where he first started playing in the school orchestra at the age of sixteen. Recognizing his potential and hidden talent, many saw a bright future for the young boy. After graduating from high school, Tracy enrolled in Southern Arkansas University, where he joined the fraternity "Sigma Pi."

In 1990, Tracy moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in an attempt to record his own compositions and gain recognition from the public. However, luck was not on his side at that time. He had to work as a salesperson in a telephone department and take up various odd jobs. He began his music career by performing at various fairs and festivals.

In 1991, Tracy met Wayne Edwards, who would later become his manager. Thanks to Edwards' guidance, Tracy signed a contract with Atlantic Records and released his debut album, "Sticks and Stones." In May 1991, Tracy experienced a life-changing event when he became a victim of a violent robbery. Three armed men broke into his hotel room and attempted to kill him. Tracy sustained four gunshot wounds, with one bullet remaining lodged in his body.
