Biography of Travis Stevens

Travis Stevens is an American judoka, a silver medalist in the Olympic Games, a two-time winner of the Pan American Games, and a champion and multiple medalist in the Pan American Championships. He is also a master of jiu-jitsu and holds a black belt.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Travis Stevens was born in Bellevue, Washington in 1988. He started practicing various martial arts at the age of six. In 2003, he placed third in an international tournament in Dallas. The following year, he became the junior champion of the United States and placed third in the international junior tournament (U20). In 2005, he once again became the junior champion of the United States and placed third in the adult national championship.

Rise to Success

In 2006, Stevens achieved several victories, winning the USA Fall Classic, US Open, and Ontario Open tournaments, and placing third in the Rendez-Vous Canada tournament. The following year, he became the national champion and Pan American Games champion, placed third in the British Open London tournament, and second in the Pedro's Judo Challenge and US Open tournaments. He also won the Liberty Bell Judo Classic, Morris Cup, Quebec Senior Open, Rendez-Vous Canada, and Finnish Open Vantaa tournaments.

In 2008, Stevens placed third in The New York Open, second in the Pan American Championships, and first in the Rendez-Vous Canada, Morris Cup, and US Open tournaments. He also secured a spot on the US Olympic team by winning the US Olympic Trial tournament. Stevens competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in the 81-kilogram category and finished in 9th place.

Continued Success and Achievements

Stevens continued to achieve success in the following years. In 2009, he became the Pan American Champion and once again the champion of the United States. He also won the Rendez-Vous Canada tournament, placed second in The New York Open, third in the Grand Slam tournament in Rio de Janeiro, and fifth in the British Cup.

In 2010, Stevens won the US National Championships and placed second in the Belgian Open, World Cup, Pan American Cup in San Salvador. He also won the bronze medal in the Pan American Championships, placed fifth in the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, and seventh in the Pan American Cup in Miami.

In 2011, Stevens achieved victories in the Grand Prix in Dusseldorf and the IJF Cup in Tashkent. He also placed second in the Pan American Championships, the Grand Slam tournament in Moscow, and third in the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. In addition, he placed fifth in the World Cup and IJF World Masters in Baku.

Stevens became the European club champion in 2012 and placed second in the Grand Slam tournament in Rio de Janeiro. In the 2012 Olympic Games, he finished in 5th place. In 2013, he won the European club championship, the Grand Prix in Tashkent, and the Pan American Open Cup. He also placed third in the Pan American Championships, fifth in the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo, and seventh in the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.

In 2014, Stevens won the Grand Prix in Dusseldorf and the Pan American Open Cup. He also placed second in the Grand Prix tournaments in Tbilisi, Zagreb, and Havana, and third in the Pan American Championships. In addition, he placed fifth in the Grand Slam tournament in Tyumen and seventh in the Grand Prix in Samsun.

In 2015, Stevens won the Pan American Games, placed third in the Pan American Championships, fifth in the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo, and seventh in the Grand Prix in Dusseldorf.

In the 2016 Olympic Games, Stevens won a silver medal in the 81-kilogram category. He has trained in New York, at the Renzo Gracie school, under the renowned jiu-jitsu master. In 2013, he opened his own school in Boston.
