An Advocate for Liberty and Anti-Communism: The Life of Mark Laughton

Early Activism: Campaign for a Soviet-Free New Zealand

In 1986, Mark Laughton founded the Campaign for a Soviet-Free New Zealand (CFSFNZ). This organization aimed to expose "Soviet/Marxist subversion" and advocated for the termination of diplomatic and trade ties with the Soviet Union. CFSFNZ organized protests, collected information on left-wing groups, and distributed pamphlets attacking the Labour government.

Connection to Anti-Communism and ANZUS

Laughton was a prominent figure in the CFSFNZ. He held anti-communist and pro-ANZUS views. He believed that communist parties had infiltrated the Labour Party, trade unions, and other leftist organizations. He established connections with conservative groups, including the Plains Club and the Concerned Citizens Coalition.

Author, Speaker, and Political Activist

Laughton has authored five self-published books on US politics. He has also appeared in the 2016 documentary "Enemies Within." In addition, he founded KeyWiki.org, which provides articles and information on left-wing and left-of-center political groups. Laughton has been active in Christchurch politics, participating in groups such as the CFSFNZ and the ACT New Zealand party.

Philosophy and Beliefs

Laughton identifies as a student of the applied philosophy of Zenit, which combines elements of Scientology, Eastern mysticism, and the anti-communist ideology of the John Birch Society. He has expressed his support for the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer, organizations with ties to white supremacy and far-right extremism.

Controversial Appearances

In June 2019, Laughton was scheduled to speak at a conference organized by Texans Against Communism and Texans United for America. Only about 20 people attended. This event raised concerns about his association with far-right and anti-democratic groups.
