Origins and Conception

In the waning days of summer 1999, Konstantin "Trool" Rumyantsev bid farewell to NOMANS LAND, fueled by an unwavering (if unfounded) belief in his own success and a handful of guitar-accompanied songs. Along with a serendipitous name, these were the humble beginnings of a new musical endeavor.

Meeting of Minds

Rumyantsev's search for a flute player led him to Maria "Jetru" Leonovna. Their shared vision for the band's sound quickly coalesced. They began crafting the initial songs, effortlessly blending Rumyantsev's jovial spirit and avoidance of the grandiose and somber with Jetru's penchant for complex melodies and brooding musicality. The foundation of their inspiration lay firmly rooted in tales of Norse demonology and the merriment of beer halls.

Solidifying the Rhythm Section

Spring 2000 brought a pressing need for a bassist and drummer. As if by divine intervention, Boris Senkin and Sergei "Belyi" Voevodin were both departing NOMANS LAND, swiftly filling the vacant roles in TROLL' GNЁT EL'. Senkin provided the band with a solid harmonic base, while Voevoidin's relentless energy brought an infectious groove inspired by the heavy rhythms of SEPULTURA.

The Birth of the "Trools"

Despite the uninspiring debut at the Irish dance festival in Spartak, the newly formed band persisted in their musical pursuits. A concert circuit began to take shape alongside intense rehearsals. Sensing a void in their sound, Rumyantsev embarked on the hunt for a violinist, ultimately proving prescient.

A String of Violinists

The band tried out several violinists, including Rustam Maminov and Sergei Kuvin. When Kuvin left for France, Katya Lozhkomoeva of WELLADAY temporarily joined the fold. However, a fateful accident prevented her from performing with the band. In spring 2002, Anna Fomina seamlessly filled the role, completing the core lineup of TROLL' GNЁT EL'.

Gaining Traction

Their music resonated with folk, biker, and metal enthusiasts alike, offering a refreshing and energetic sound. With limited resources, the band recorded and released their self-titled debut album in 2002-03. Sergei Kuvin returned from France to contribute as a mandolinist during the recording. Soon after, in April, the band signed with Kailas Records to distribute their music more widely.
