Early Life and Education

Turkmen statesman Serdar Berdimuhamedow was born in 1967 in the Uzunsuv village of the Balkan velayat. In 1984, he began his career as a mechanic at the "Turkmennebit" association in Balkanabat. After completing his military service in 1987, Berdimuhamedow pursued higher education. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Civil Engineering and Construction in 1991 and the Turkmen Polytechnic Institute (specializing in mechanical engineering) in 1993.

Career in the Public Sector

From 1993 to 1999, Berdimuhamedow worked in Balkanabat as chairman of the "Yardam" joint-stock company, accountant for the "Balkannebitgazyrluşyk" trust, inspector, and eventually head of the state tax service for the Balkan velayat.

In 1999, he became a leading specialist in the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. In 2005, he was appointed deputy minister of economy and finance, and in February 2007, he became first deputy minister.

Chairmanship of the Supreme Audit Chamber

In November 2007, Berdimuhamedow was appointed chairman of the Supreme Audit Chamber of Turkmenistan. This appointment came after a report by Tuvakmamed Japarov highlighted shortcomings in the country's mobile phone services, public programs, and the quality and availability of payphones.

Vice-Premiership and Banking Chairmanship

From January 2009 to July 2011, Berdimuhamedow served as deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers. During this time, he received a reprimand from President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for insufficient oversight of his subordinate organizations.

On July 8, 2011, Berdimuhamedow became chairman of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan. He remained in this position until January 10, 2014, when he was dismissed due to shortcomings in his performance.

Awards

Berdimuhamedow has been honored with the "Medal for Love of Fatherland" (2009).
