Ty Ziegel was a former American soldier who became known as the "Man without a Face" after sustaining severe burns during his service in the army as a sergeant in Iraq. After graduating from high school, Ty joined the army, and in 2003, he was deployed to Iraq as part of the Marine Corps. In December 2004, while serving in Iraq for almost six months, Ty was involved in a devastating explosion when a suicide bomber crashed into the American truck he was riding in with his comrades. Although Ty survived the explosion, he suffered life-changing injuries that left him unrecognizable. He lost one hand, his fingers on the other hand, and his face, including his lips, nose, ears, and partial vision in one eye. Despite undergoing numerous surgeries, doctors were unable to restore his face, leaving Ty severely disfigured.

However, it was not his injuries that brought Ty Ziegel into the media spotlight. His beautiful and touching love story with his girlfriend, Renee Kline, garnered global attention. Ty and Renee had been dating since Ty was 18 and she was 15, even before his military service. Their wedding became a significant event not only in their town but also in the entire state. Unfortunately, their marriage was short-lived, and they divorced a year later, citing the haste of their union as the reason. Many noticed that Renee did not smile in any of the wedding photos taken by a professional photographer. There were also reports that she confessed to being scared and waking up screaming at the sight of her own husband.

Despite the challenges he faced, Ty continued to live an active life and remained supportive of the government and the war in Iraq, despite how it had affected him personally. He engaged in social activities, including online interactions, and eventually entered into a new relationship with another woman. At some point, Ty had a dispute with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, claiming that his compensation was insufficient.

Sadly, Ty Ziegel's life was cut short in December 2012 when he tragically died from a fall on ice that resulted in a fatal head injury. Even to this day, heartless internet users occasionally use his photos inappropriately. However, those who knew Ty personally remember him as a joker and a young man who faced great misfortune. When children asked Ty about his missing ears, he would humorously reply, "The bad guys took them."

Overall, Ty Ziegel's life was marked by his service to his country, his resilience in the face of adversity, and the bittersweet love story that captured the world's attention.
