Early Career and Club SuccessÜmit Karan, a renowned Turkish footballer, rose to prominence as a striker. His professional career began with Gençlerbirliği in Ankara, where he played for five seasons and scored a remarkable 47 goals. In the 2001/02 season, he joined the prestigious Galatasaray in Istanbul, where he became a key player under manager Mircea Lucescu.
Galatasaray and Captaincy
Karan's time at Galatasaray was marked by both success and challenges. He emerged as the team's primary striker following the departure of Mario Jardel. In 2004-05, he was loaned to Ankaraspor due to his perceived poor form by then-manager Gheorghe Hagi. However, he made a strong comeback in the 2005/06 season under new Galatasaray coach Eric Gerets. During his tenure, Karan captained Galatasaray during the 2008/09 season.
International Career
