Early Achievements and Legacy

Breakthrough at the IJF Grand Prix

Uta Abe made history in February 2016 when she became the youngest judoka to win an IJF Grand Prix at the Düsseldorf Grand Prix. This remarkable achievement set the stage for her future success on the international stage.

Maiden World Championship Title

At the 2018 World Championships in Baku, Abe became a world champion for the first time at the age of 18. She rose through the ranks, defeating top competitors such as Karolina Pienkowska, Fabienne Kocher, Jessica Pereira, and Amandine Buchard. In the final, she faced fellow Japanese judoka Ai Shishime and emerged victorious to claim the coveted gold medal.

Double World Triumph and Olympic Glory

Abe's dominance continued at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo, where she once again captured the gold medal by overcoming Russian judoka Natalia Kuziutina. Her triumph at the pre-Olympic World Championships paved the way for her Olympic dream.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Abe fulfilled her Olympic aspirations by securing a gold medal in the 52kg weight category. In the final, she faced Amandine Buchard, whom she had previously defeated at the World Championships. Abe displayed her unwavering determination and exceptional technique to secure the coveted Olympic title.

Sisterly Bond in Judo

Abe shares a close bond with her brother, Hifumi Abe, who is also an Olympic and two-time world champion in judo. Together, the Abe siblings have become a force to be reckoned with in the sport, showcasing the strength of familial support and competition.
