Early Career and Success with Porsche
Uwe Alzen(born 1967) is a renowned German racing driver. His breakthrough came in 1991 when he emerged victorious in the newly established Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, a feat he repeated the following year. Partnering with Christian Fittipaldi and Jean-Pierre Jarier, he triumphed in the 24 Hours of Spa with Porsche in 1994.
Dominance in German Touring Car Racing
Alzen continued his success by winning the Porsche Supercup in 1994 and the Class 2 privateer championship in the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) in 1995. In 1996, he competed in the full DTM/ITC season with Opel Calibra.
After the DTM's discontinuation, Alzen remained with Opel in the German Super Touring Car Championship (STW), where he claimed the title in 1999. However, controversy marred this victory as his teammate Roland Asch controversially took out his main rival, Christian Abt. The victory was ultimately awarded to Abt after video evidence was reviewed.
Triumph at the Nürburgring
In 2000, Alzen triumphed in the prestigious 24 Hours of Nürburgring. With the revival of the DTM, he returned to the series with Opel, but after a single season marked by conflicts with his teammate Manuel Reuter, he switched to Mercedes. However, he departed from Mercedes in 2003 under similar circumstances.
Additional Accomplishments
Throughout his DTM career, Alzen competed in 124 races, securing 17 podium finishes and six victories. Following his departure from DTM, he continued his racing career in the German Porsche Carrera Cup, claiming his third title in 2007, 16 years after his initial triumph in 1991.
In 2005, Alzen set a record at the VLN Championship on the Nordschleife, driving a development Porsche Turbo from his and his brother's race team, with a lap time of 8.09,949.
