Yakov Nikolayevich Nikoladze

Early Life and Education

Yakov Nikolayevich Nikoladze was born on December 31, 1907 (January 13, 1908, by the new calendar) in Tiflis, Georgia. From 1924 to 1931, he pursued his studies at the Tbilisi Art Academy with distinguished mentors, including N. Kandelari, E.E. Lanceray, J. Nikoladze, and I. Charlemagne.

Monumental Sculptures and Public Works

Nikoladze's artistic vision manifested itself in grand, epic sculptures that echoed the spirit of monuments. Notable examples include "Victory," a statue on the theater's pediment in Chiatura, and the statue of A. Tsereteli, which won the State Prize of the USSR in 1950. These works captured the essence of the human figure in monumental and expressive forms.

Portraiture and Artistic Legacy

In addition to his monumental sculptures, Nikoladze exhibited a talent for portraiture. His sculptures of "V.I. Lenin" (1961) and "Actor E. Bush" (1966) stand as testaments to his ability to capture the subtleties of character and expression. Both bronze sculptures now reside in the State Picture Gallery of Georgia in Tbilisi.

Recognition and Honors

Nikoladze's artistic accomplishments earned him significant recognition. He became a people's artist of Georgia in 1958 and a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts in 1970. Additionally, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and medals for his contributions to Soviet art.
