Biography of Valeria Levitin
Valeria Levitin, born on September 19, 1972, is a Russian woman who gained international attention for her extreme battle with anorexia. She suffered from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder characterized by an intense fear of gaining weight and an extreme restriction of food intake.

Early Life and Struggles
From a young age, Levitin was conscious of her weight. Her mother, fearing that Levitin would become overweight like their relatives, imposed strict diets on her. Levitin would often weigh herself to ensure she didn't gain any unwanted pounds.
In 1992, at the age of 16, Levitin moved with her parents to Chicago. However, she struggled to make friends in her new school and believed that her weight was the reason. This led her to adopt an even stricter diet, completely eliminating sugar and carbohydrates from her meals. Over time, her body became unable to process these foods, and she developed an aversion to them.
Her classmates continued to mock her, reinforcing her obsession with her weight and desire to lose what she believed was excess fat. By the age of 23, Levitin had lost nearly half her body weight, weighing only 40 kilograms (88 pounds). Despite her drastic weight loss, she was still told she needed to lose more if she wanted to pursue a career in modeling.
Health Complications and Seeking Help
Over the next ten years, Levitin sought help from various medical professionals and nutritionists. However, her health continued to deteriorate, and her weight dropped to a critical level of 23.5 kilograms (52 pounds).
Some may believe that Levitin's problems could be easily solved by just eating properly. However, after years of strict diets, her body had become accustomed to a restricted range of foods, making it difficult for her to reintroduce certain types of food. Furthermore, the psychological aspect of her condition, the lack of harmony between her mind and body, played a significant role in her illness.
Inspiring Others and Hope for the Future
Despite her struggles, Levitin hopes that her story will serve as a cautionary tale for young girls who obsess over their weight. She believes that her extreme control over her body led to catastrophic consequences and wants to encourage others to embrace self-acceptance and a healthy relationship with their bodies.
Currently, Levitin contemplates returning to her hometown of Moscow, hoping that being in familiar surroundings will help her feel better. Her battle with anorexia serves as a reminder of the dangers of extreme body control and the importance of cultivating a positive body image.
