Valery Magdyash: A Life in Entertainment

Early Life and Education

Valery Magdyash was born on August 7, 1951, in Chisinau, Moldova, to a family of police officers. From a young age, he showed a talent for the arts, and with the encouragement of his music teacher, he participated in a nationwide festival where he played the role of Vasily Terkin. After the festival, he caught the attention of film director Emil Loteanu, who offered him a chance to act in a movie. However, his mother's disapproval prevented him from pursuing that opportunity.

Instead, Magdyash graduated from the Simferopol Higher Military-Political Construction School with honors and served in the Far East. In 1975, he moved to Moscow and enrolled in the State Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS). Upon graduation, he joined the Moscow Theater of Comedy for three years.

Career in Theater and Film

In the 1990s, Magdyash embarked on a career as a theater producer. He also appeared in small roles in films such as "Who, If Not Us," "Stalin. Live," "Truckers 2," and "The Lawyer."

"Our Russia" and Beyond

Magdyash's breakthrough came in 2006, when he began playing the role of Tajik migrant worker Dzhamshut in the sketch comedy series "Our Russia." This role brought him widespread recognition and led to additional parts as "Speedy Abelardo," homeless man Kolya, and a linesman in an episode about the Omsk football team "GazMyas." In 2010, he reprised his role as Dzhamshut in the film "Our Russia: Eggs of Fate."

Financial Crisis and Homelessness

In 2018, Magdyash was robbed, losing his documents and the money he had saved for a new apartment. He ended up homeless in Mineralnye Vody, where he lived at the train station. Fortunately, a kind-hearted woman took him in and provided him with shelter in Anapa.

Current Life

Magdyash has since returned to a stable life and teaches at a children's theater studio. He has been married twice (divorced) and has two daughters, Viktoria and Ksenia, and a grandson, Konstantin.
