Son of a Maestro

Ante Dedić, a Croatian cellist, was born into a musical family as the son of composer and conductor Šime Dešpalj.

Early Education and Training

After completing music school, Dedić embarked on a musical journey that took him to the United States, where he studied at several conservatories. He culminated his studies at the Juilliard School under the tutelage of the renowned cellist Leonard Rose. Concurrently, he honed his ensemble skills in Felix Galimir's class.

International Collaborations

Dedić's pursuit of musical excellence led him to Moscow, where he spent two years training at the Moscow Conservatory under Galina Kozolupova. He also sought guidance from cello masters Pablo Casals, Pierre Fournier, and André Navarra.

Academic Appointment and Pedagogy

In 1972, Dedić was appointed Professor at the Zagreb Academy of Music. He has left an enduring legacy through his teaching, with Luka Šulić being one of his notable students.

"STRINGS ONLY!" Festival and Dubrovnik Festival

Dedić co-founded and directed the annual "STRINGS ONLY!" festival for young string musicians in 1992, an initiative he undertook alongside his sister, violinist Maja Dešpalj-Begović. From 1996 to 2000, he served as the musical director of the festival in Dubrovnik, further showcasing his commitment to nurturing young musical talent.
