Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Ion Chirinciuc, better known by his stage name Vanotek, was born on September 15th in Ungheni, Moldova. From an early age, he demonstrated a passion for music, inspired by his father's guitar and piano. Despite his initial desire to learn the guitar, his short fingers led his music teachers to recommend the accordion.
At the age of 6, Vanotek's unquenchable musical thirst prompted his mother to inquire about his interest in continuing his studies in Romania. Eager to immerse himself in a musically rich environment, he left for Iași the following year.
Education and Career in Romania
Vanotek graduated from the "Octav Băncilă" Music School in Iași and went on to study psychology at the "Spiru Haret" University. However, his love for music remained unwavering.
At the age of 17, Vanotek began composing and collaborating with renowned Romanian musicians such as Antonia, Dan Balan, and DJ Sava. His breakthrough came with the song "Fete din Balcani" for singer Corina, which became one of the most-watched videos on Romanian YouTube.
Eurovision and International Acclaim
In 2016, Vanotek achieved further success with his song "My Heart is Gone" featuring Yanka. The song topped the Romanian charts for several weeks, leading to a nomination for "Best Romanian Act" at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
The track also gained international recognition and was picked up by radio stations in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Portugal. Fueled by fan demand, Vanotek submitted the song for consideration to the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, where it reached the second place in the national selection.
Global Success and Collaboration
2017 marked a pivotal year in Vanotek's career. His collaboration with popular Romanian singer Eneli on "Tell Me Who" soared in popularity in Romania and Russia, reaching number 86 on the global Shazam chart. The song was licensed by Ultra Music and garnered millions of views on YouTube.
Vanotek and Eneli went on to release a series of successful singles together, including "Vision," "Tara," and "Back to Me." The latter reached number 5 on the Russian Shazam chart and was also licensed by Ultra Music.
Debut Album and Personal Life
In 2017, Vanotek released his debut album, "No Sleep," which featured 12 songs and one remix. The album was released digitally on January 22nd, 2017.
Vanotek is happily married to Alina, and the couple has two sons, Matei and Luca. Matei, known by his stage name Minitek, shares his father's passion for music and often joins him in the recording studio.
Recent Collaborations and Future Projects
Vanotek continues to collaborate with top Romanian record label Global Records, which released his debut album. In 2018, he released a new song titled "My Day" with Magnit, Slider, and Mikayla.
Vanotek has teased fans with the announcement of a new music video for the song "Love is Gone." Additionally, he has delighted Russian fans by releasing a remix of the beloved Soviet cartoon song "Let Them Run Clumsily..." on his official YouTube channel.
Beyond studio work, Vanotek performs live both in Romania and internationally. He recently gave a memorable performance with Eneli in Saint Petersburg's A2 club in March 2018.
