Early Life and Education
Armenian educator, public figure, and statesman, was born and raised in Armenia. In 1970, he enrolled in the M. Nalbandian Leninakan State Pedagogical Institute and graduated in 1975 with a degree in Physical Education. His athletic prowess earned him the prestigious title of Master of Sports of the USSR in 1976, and he was honored as a Merited Coach of Armenia in 1993.
Military Service and Academic Career
Following his graduation, he served in the Soviet Army from 1976 to 1977. Upon his return, he embarked on a distinguished academic career at the Leninakan Pedagogical Institute, where he held the positions of pedagogue and senior pedagogue from 1977 to 1990. In 1990, he became the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture at the same institution.
Political Career
In 1990, he was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR, a position he held until 1995. During this period, he also served as the Chairman of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sports in Gyumri from 1992 to 1996. Subsequently, he held administrative positions in the education sector, initially as Deputy Head of the Shirak Region Education Department and later as Head of the Sports Department from 1996 to 1999.
In 1999, he was once again elected to the National Assembly of Armenia, where he served until 2002. During his parliamentary tenure, he was a member of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, and Youth Affairs and a member of the "Agro-Industrial People's Union" parliamentary group.
Later Years and Legacy
Since 2002, he has served as the Rector of the Gyumri Pedagogical Institute. He holds a Doctorate in Pedagogical Sciences, which he received in 2004. Throughout his illustrious career, he has made significant contributions to pedagogy, sports, and public service in Armenia, leaving a lasting legacy in the nation's education and development.
