Early Life and Education
Vardges Davtyan was born on May 17, 1961, in Yerevan, Armenia, to Ashod Davtyan, an educator, and Siran Sargsyan, a pediatrician. From 1979 to 1985, he pursued medical studies at the Yerevan State Medical Institute while simultaneously working as a nurse at the Norq Republican Psychiatric Hospital. Afterward, he completed his residency in psychiatry at the same institution under the guidance of renowned psychiatrist Academician Andranik Megrabyan.
Professional Career in Armenia
Following his residency, Davtyan commenced his professional career as a junior researcher in the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology at the Yerevan State Medical Institute from 1987 to 1991. He then rose to the rank of associate professor and taught medical psychology to medical and pediatric students. Concurrently, he founded and edited the medical journal "Narek" from 1990 to 1992. Davtyan also served on the editorial board of "Health" and "Spirit" magazines and was a member of the Armenian Association of Psychiatrists and Narcologists.
Research Interests
Davtyan's research focused on the history of psychiatric drug therapy in Armenia, socio-clinical psychiatry, the depiction of psychiatry in Armenian literature, political psychology, and psychotherapy. He defended his PhD dissertation in philology at the Institute of Literature named after Manuk Abeghyan in 1994, exploring the psychoanalytic aspects of Ovanes Tumanyan's work.
Work in the United States
Since 2000, Davtyan has resided in the United States. He has hosted the television programs "Psychiatrist Invites You for a Chat" and "Farewell, Sadness" on Los Angeles channels. Currently, he is a member of the Union of Writers of America, California Chapter.
Literary Contributions
Davtyan is a prolific author with approximately 200 publications spanning scientific, popular science, fiction, and publicistic works. His writings have been widely recognized and have earned him numerous awards.
