Early Life and Naval Education

Vasily Nikolaevich Yeroshchenko was born into a railway worker's family at Ekaterinodar station. After completing his education at a road construction technical college, he enrolled at the M.V. Frunze Naval College in October 1926, graduating in May 1930.

Black Sea Service

Upon graduation, Yeroshchenko was assigned to the Black Sea Fleet. He served aboard the battleship "Parizhskaya Kommuna" as an assistant watch officer and later as a rangefinder specialist. Subsequently, he held positions as a rangefinder specialist, navigator, assistant commander, and acting commander on the gunboat "Krasnyi Adzharistan."

Command Assignments

In March 1937, as a senior lieutenant, Yeroshchenko took command of the minesweeper "Gruz," a post he held for about a year. He later commanded the destroyer "Shaumyan" and, as a captain-lieutenant, became commander of the leader "Moskva."

Leadership of the "Tashkent"

From June 1941 to July 1942, Yeroshchenko commanded the leader "Tashkent." This ship became famous for its heroic defense against Nazi aircraft during the evacuation of Sevastopol.

Later Career

Following his command on the "Tashkent," Yeroshchenko took charge of the cruiser "Krasnyi Kavkaz." He attained the rank of Rear Admiral in the Soviet Navy on May 31, 1954.
