Early Life and Amateur CareerVasyl Lomachenko, a Ukrainian professional boxer, was born in the city of Belgorod-Dniester in the Odessa region on February 17, 1988. His father, Anatoly Lomachenko, introduced him to boxing at a young age, and Vasyl quickly developed a passion for the sport. He began training in a gym and had his first fight during the "Nadezhda" tournament, where he impressed with his skills despite the match being declared a draw.
Lomachenko went on to achieve significant victories, winning the Ukrainian and European Championships among cadets in 2004. His success continued as he won the Ukrainian Championships in 2005 and 2007 and earned a gold medal at the Junior World Championships in 2006. In 2008, Lomachenko represented Ukraine in the Olympic Games and emerged as the champion in the weight category of under 60 kg.
Professional Career
After his amateur career, Lomachenko signed a contract with the semi-professional league WSB and joined the team "Ukrainian Atamans." He achieved success in the WSB, becoming the top-ranked boxer and earning recognition as the most promising talent. In 2013, he traveled to the United States with his father and another renowned Ukrainian boxer, Oleksandr Usyk, to sign a contract with Top Rank.
Lomachenko made his professional debut on October 13, 2013, defeating Jose Ramirez and claiming the WBO Inter-Continental title. His next match against Orlando Salido ended in a controversial decision, but Lomachenko rebounded by winning the WBO Featherweight title in his third professional fight against Gary Russell Jr. In subsequent fights, he successfully defended his title against Gamalier Rodriguez and Romulo Koasicha.
Seeking new challenges, Lomachenko moved up to the Super Featherweight division and faced Roman Martinez for the WBO World Super Featherweight title. He won the fight by knockout in the fifth round, becoming a two-weight world champion in only his seventh professional bout.
