Military Campaigns
Vasily participated in several military campaigns under the command of his uncle, Yuri (Georgy) II. In 1220, he led a campaign against the Bulgar tribes. In 1224, he joined Yuri's expedition to southern Russia to aid Prince Mikhail of Chernigov against the Tatars. However, Vasily did not participate in the Battle of Kalka River due to arriving late.
Conflict and Reconciliation
In 1228, Vasily was ordered by Yuri to march against the Mordvins. However, he was recalled due to the machinations of his other uncle, Yaroslav Vsevolodovich. The conflict was resolved at the Congress of Suzdal in 1229.
Further Campaigns and Death
Vasily continued to serve under Yuri, including a campaign to devastate the territories of Prince Mikhail of Chernigov in 1231. During the second Mongol invasion, Vasily and Yuri retreated to the Yaroslavl region. In the Battle of the Sit River on March 4, 1238, Vasily was captured and killed by the Mongols.
