Childhood and Early Musical Beginnings

Valery Dvinin was born and raised in the town of Pervouralsk, USSR. At the age of 14, he began his musical journey by joining a band at the local Pioneers' House. He initially played guitar and keyboards in school bands.

Journey to Music Education

In 1983, Dvinin decided to pursue music professionally and enrolled at the P.I. Tchaikovsky Music College in Sverdlovsk. Initially, he struggled as a bass player, but a mentor encouraged him to switch to the double bass, which had fewer applicants. Despite receiving a low score on his entrance exam, Dvinin was admitted due to his eagerness to learn.

Military Service and Musical Experiences

After completing one year of college, Dvinin was drafted into the Soviet Army and served in Moscow. He joined the orchestra of the Internal Troops, performing at notable events such as the funerals of Soviet leaders Ustinov and Chernenko. He also participated in the opening and closing ceremonies of the XII World Festival of Youth and Students in 1985.

Return to Music and Professional Development

In 1986, Dvinin returned to Sverdlovsk and transferred to the Variety Department of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Music College, where he studied double bass and bass guitar. He joined the band "Raut," which participated in the first festival of the Sverdlovsk Rock Club. He also worked in various bands from 1986 to 1988, gaining experience in both rock and commercial music.

Association with "Aссоциация" and "Чайф"

In 1989, Dvinin briefly joined Alexei Mogilevsky's band "Ассоциация" before moving on to work with Nastya Polevaya's groups. He rehearsed at the "Чайф" band's rehearsal space.

Departure and Return to "Чайф"

After 1991, Dvinin left Russia for Europe, but eventually returned in 1995. In 1996, he was invited to audition for "Чайф" and impressed the band members with his knowledge of their repertoire. He became a permanent member of the group, a position he has held to this day.

Awards and Recognition

On December 6, 2010, Dvinin and the other members of "Чайф" were awarded the "For Services to the Sverdlovsk Region" award, an honor recognizing their contributions to the region's culture and arts.
