From 1832 to 1846, Vásquez Queipo served as a financial inspector in Cuba, an experience that inspired his book on the island. Subsequently, he became a senator and held prominent positions in the Ministry of Overseas Territories.

After Queen Isabella's abdication in 1868, Vásquez Queipo chose to dedicate himself to academia, accepting a professorship at the University of Valladolid. His writings ranged widely, encompassing history, science, and economics.
