Early Life and Musical Education
Vasyl Kostriukov, a renowned Ukrainian and Soviet composer, began his musical journey in the town of Belgorod-Dnestrovsk. In 1955, he graduated from the Belgorod-Dnestrovsk Music School, where he studied the button accordion with A. Y. Savinkov. Eight years later, in 1963, Kostriukov earned his degree from the Lviv Conservatory, once again specializing in the button accordion under the tutelage of M. D. Oberyukhtin.
A Versatile Career
Kostriukov's diverse career encompassed both performance and teaching. From 1955 to 1963, he was a soloist with the Odessa Regional Philharmonic Orchestra. Subsequently, he taught the button accordion at the Odessa Cultural and Educational College from 1963 to 1965.
In 1965, he joined the Odessa Musical Academy. His tenure there spanned over three decades, starting as an instructor and rising to the position of professor in 1993. From 1974 to 1982, he headed the Department of Folk Instruments.
Accolades and Legacy
Kostriukov's exceptional work earned him numerous accolades. In 1977, he received the All-Ukrainian Competition Award for the Best Work for Folk Instruments. He also became a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine in 1991, the Union of Composers of Ukraine in 1992, and was bestowed the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine in 1996.
Throughout his teaching career, Kostriukov played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of over 150 students, many of whom went on to become award-winning musicians and distinguished honorees. Notable among them are I. Sebov, V. Moskaliuk, V. Lazich (Yugoslavia), A. Serkov, A. Bersan, I. Komlev, S. Brykaylo, R. Nekrasov, A. Sanjak, G. Murashenko, V. Simionescu, S. Gavrichkov, and A. Nazarihin.
