American Tennis Player Victoria Duval: A Fighter on and off the Court
Victoria Duval, an American tennis player, was born in 1995 in Miami to Haitian parents. Her father, Jean-Maurice, is a gynecologist, and her mother, Nadine, is also a medical professional. Although she spent her childhood in Haiti, Duval is an American with Haitian roots.

When she was seven years old, Duval and her family experienced a terrifying robbery, which led her mother to close her medical practice and move the family to Florida. Her father remained in Haiti and continued his gynecological practice in Port-au-Prince. Despite these difficult circumstances, Duval showed great promise in sports, particularly tennis, from a young age.

In 2010, when a devastating earthquake struck Haiti, Duval's father was there and spent 11 harrowing hours trapped under the rubble of his own home. After surviving multiple surgeries, he eventually joined his family in the United States. Meanwhile, Duval continued to excel in tennis and eventually moved to Atlanta to pursue more serious training.

Duval's talent and hard work paid off, as she became the winner of two ITF tournaments and reached the semifinals of a junior Grand Slam event in singles. By August 2014, she had earned $249,103 in prize money and achieved her highest singles ranking of 87.
Unfortunately, during the qualifying matches for the Wimbledon tournament in 2014, Duval received devastating news: she had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer. Despite the diagnosis, Duval decided to finish the tournament before returning to the US for urgent treatment.
Thanks to the early detection of her illness, Duval's prognosis is very positive, and doctors expect her to make a full recovery in a few months. With the determination and resilience she displays on the court, Duval views her battle with cancer as a match that she will undoubtedly win.
"This will be the toughest fight of my life, but I see myself healthy and playing the sport I love again," she said. Duval is also grateful for the support she has received from her fans, who have sent her numerous letters and messages wishing her good health, patience, and strength.
