Early Life and Military Career
Victor Leontyevich Gogolev was born on May 1, 1912, in the village of Elan, Russia. He served in the Soviet Army from 1934 to 1955 and participated in the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940.
World War II
During World War II, Gogolev fought on various fronts, including the Southern, North Caucasian, Zakavkazsky, Voronezh, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Belorussian, and 1st Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the defense of the Caucasus, the Battle of Kursk, the liberation of Ukraine and Belarus, and the defeat of Nazi Germany in Berlin.
Hero of the Soviet Union
On June 27, 1945, Gogolev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his bravery and courage during the Battle of Berlin. He led the 91st Engineering and Sapper Слуцк Red Banner Battalion in building a bridge over the Teltow Canal, allowing Soviet forces to cross and advance into the city.
Post-War Life
After the war, Gogolev continued to serve in the army and graduated from the Command and Engineering Courses at the V.V. Kuibyshev Military Engineering Academy in 1947. He retired in March 1955 with the rank of lieutenant colonel and lived in Moscow. He was an Honorary Citizen of Berlin, and a school in the Ulyanovsky collective farm in the Rtishchevsky district was named after him.
