Early Life and Education
Igor Vladimirovich Nusenkis was born in 1954 in Donetsk, Ukraine, to a working-class father and a teacher mother. After graduating from the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute, he began his career at the Batkivska mine in Makiivka.
Business Career
Founding of "Energo" (1992)In 1992, Nusenkis established the "Energo" concern, which quickly became a major coal trader in Ukraine, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
Acquisition of Donetskstal (1990s)
Nusenkis acquired the Donetsk Metallurgical Plant and several coal mining companies, forming the Donetskstal Closed Joint Stock Company (ZAO). The Donetskstal group included the Donetsk Metallurgical Plant, Yasinovskiy Coke and Chemical Plant, Makeevka Coke and Chemical Plant, Pokrovskoe Mine Administration, and Donetsk Electrotechnical Plant.
Collaborations and Expansion (2000s)
In 2007, he co-founded the Yasinovskiy Coke and Chemical Company with Vladimir Boyko. In 2009, he acquired the October Mine in the Kemerovo region of Russia.
Wealth and Recognition
In 2010, Nusenkis was ranked sixth among the wealthiest Ukrainians in the "Golden Hundred" rating with a fortune of $2.3 billion, according to the "Korrespondent" magazine.
Religious Contributions
Nusenkis is a prominent donor to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He has funded the construction of many significant churches in the Donetsk diocese. He also participated in the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2009 as a lay delegate from the Donetsk diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Citizenship and Philanthropy in Russia
Nusenkis currently holds Russian citizenship. He has also contributed to the construction of the Epiphany Cathedral in Kozelsk, Russia.
