Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Victoria Petryk was born on May 21, 1997, in the Black Sea port city of Odessa, Ukraine. Her childhood, however, was spent in the village of Nerubayske, where her family eventually relocated.
Music was a constant presence in Petryk's life, as both of her parents were musicians. Her father, Igor Vasilyevich, played keyboard instruments, while her mother, Tatyana Fedorovna, was a violinist. Her younger sister, Anastasia Petryk, also pursued a career in music.
Early Success and International Recognition
Petryk began her solo career in 2002, representing the Vorontsov Palace of Children and Youth Creativity. She achieved her first major international success in 2004, winning the grand prize at the "Zoriani Mosty" international children's competition.
In 2008, she represented Ukraine at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Limassol, Cyprus, with the song "Matrosy," where she finished in second place.
Artistic Breakthroughs
In 2010, Petryk and her sister participated in the popular Ukrainian talent show "Ukraina Maie Talant." Later that year, she triumphed at the international "Children's New Wave" competition, sharing the first place with the Armenian group "Razmik and Friends."
In 2014, Petryk became a national sensation when she competed in the Ukrainian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. While she did not win, her performance captured the hearts of the audience.
"New Wave" Controversy and International Success
In the same year, Petryk represented Ukraine at the "New Wave" festival in Jurmala, Latvia, alongside Vyacheslav Rybikov. They finished in second place behind a Georgian entrant.
During the competition, Petryk found herself at the center of a controversy when she wore a tracksuit with the Russian tricolor on it. She defended her decision, stating that all participants were dressed similarly and that the competition should not be politicized.
