Early Life and Education
Vinzenz Kiefer, a German actor, was born in Weilburg, Germany, in early 1979. His father was a Catholic pastor, and his mother was a singer. Kiefer has a sister, Dorkas Kiefer, who also pursued acting. He grew up in Braunfels, Germany, and attended high school there.
As a child, Kiefer possessed a vivid imagination and enjoyed exploring the woods, inventing games, searching for buried treasures, building makeshift time machines, and constructing shelters from available materials. His favorite fictional characters included musketeers, pirates, Zorro, and Robin Hood.
Film Debut and Early Career
Despite his admiration for film characters, Kiefer initially had no aspirations to become an actor. His first film role came about by chance. At the age of 16, Kiefer visited his sister on the set of the soap opera "Zwischen uns." Struck by his appearance, a director noticed Kiefer and offered him a role.
Although hesitant to leave home, Kiefer eventually accepted the offer and made his acting debut in "Zwischen uns." Initially lacking formal training, he honed his skills during the filming process. Kiefer's performance was well-received, leading to further roles in television series such as "Unser Charly" and "Stadtklinik."
Critical Recognition
Kiefer's breakthrough came with his portrayal of Benny Bahr in Bernd Fischerauer's 2004 film "Im Namen des Herrn." His performance earned him the Günter Strack Prize for Best Young Actor in 2004.
The following years proved to be prolific for Kiefer. He appeared in numerous television shows, films, and short films, including "Inspektor Kress," "SOKO Leipzig," "Mit Herz und Handschellen," and "Cinderella: Once Upon a Song."
International Success
In 2008, Kiefer garnered international recognition for his role as Ulrich Wessel in the dramatic film "The Baader Meinhof Complex," which chronicled the rise of the Red Army Faction.
Kiefer's versatility extended to action thrillers, as evidenced by his portrayal of Robin Hood in the 2013 film of the same name. He also appeared in "The Last Trace" and "Road to Damascus."
Hollywood Blockbuster and Awards
Kiefer's career reached another milestone in 2016 with his role as Christian Dassault in the spy thriller "Jason Bourne," starring Matt Damon.
In 2019, Kiefer starred in the lead role of Colonel Klaus Jäger in the Russian war film "T-34." His performance garnered critical acclaim.
Personal Life
In 2016, Kiefer married German-Russian actress Masha Tokareva. The couple does not have any children. Prior to his marriage, Kiefer was in a relationship with German actress Josefine Preuß from 2008 to 2010.
