Viorica Dumbrăveanu: Moldovan Politician and Social Advocate
Early Life and EducationViorica Dumbrăveanu was born on December 23, 1976, in Chișinău, Moldova. She began her studies in 1994 at the Republican College of Informatics, where she pursued a degree in general law. In 1997, she continued her education at the State University of Moldova, graduating with a bachelor's degree in jurisprudence in 2001. In 2003, she completed her Master's degree in law, specializing in criminal law and criminology.
Career in Social Protection
From 2002 to 2003, Dumbrăveanu worked as a senior consultant in the Department of Social Protection at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. She subsequently held various positions in the Ministry of Social Protection, Family, and Child, including:
- Head of the Department for Children at Risk and Equal Opportunities (2003-2005)
- Policy Officer (2005-2007)
- Head of the Department for Family and Child Protection (2007-2008)- Deputy Minister (2008-2009 and 2016-2017)
In 2017, she was appointed State Secretary for Social Protection at the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Social Protection.
Political Appointments
From July 23 to November 14, 2019, Dumbrăveanu served as Advisor for Social Issues to the President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon. On November 14, 2019, she was appointed Minister of Health, Labor, and Social Protection in the Chicu government. She held this position until December 23, 2020, when the Chicu government resigned. Dumbrăveanu continued to serve as Acting Minister until December 31, 2020.

Dumbrăveanu is fluent in Russian and English. She is married and has two children.
Honors and Recognition
In 2010, she was awarded the Medal for Civic Merit for her contributions to social protection in Moldova.
