Early Life and CareerVipula Athukorala, a London-based artist, sculptor, and chef originally from Sri Lanka, developed a keen interest for butter sculpture over three decades ago. As a student, he explored various mediums, including polystyrene and clay.

Butter Sculpture Maestro
Athukorala meticulously crafts his butter masterpieces with surgical precision, even holding his breath to prevent disrupting their delicate forms. Using a blend of butter and baking margarine, he creates intricate works, including a vintage Rolls-Royce model and a lifelike rendition of the Pied Piper.

Awards and Recognition
Athukorala's exceptional talent has garnered him several accolades, including gold and silver medals at the Salon Culinaire Awards in London. His attention to detail and patience have astounded judges. The award-winning Pinocchio scene alone took over 90 hours to complete.

Inspiration and Technique
While working in Greece, Iraq, and other countries, Athukorala honed his artistic skills. He initially used polystyrene as a preferred material but became fascinated by butter's unique properties. He incorporates stainless steel supports into his creations, allowing him to sculpt on a grand scale.
Home as a Sanctuary for Art
Athukorala has dedicated a room in his home exclusively to his sculpture. When he retreats there, his family knows not to disturb him until his work is finished. His wife's understanding nature has been a source of support for his passion.
Current Struggles
Despite his impressive culinary background, Athukorala was recently laid off. This has placed him in a peculiar situation, as one of the world's leading chefs finds himself unemployed. He laments the declining demand for artistic chefs in upscale hotels, leaving him feeling discouraged.
